Shimano Shootout Report – Zone 4

Gold Coast

Saturday 28 October 2017

With 22 Boats and the weather Gods smiling down the Gold Coast Game Fish Club’s money Tournament the “Shimano Shootout” a one day event, was sure to produce some good results.

With boats ranging from as small as 6.4m (Redonkulous) to 51ft (Jugs) everyone was in with a chance to win some cold hard cash with over $17,000 on offer.

The day ended with 21 hook ups and 12 Marlin being released & tagged comprising of 10 Blue and 2 Striped Marlin. Rumour has it there were a few Marlin dropped beside boats which unfortunately cost a couple of boats the winners spot but that’s fishing.

Big congratulations goes to Mufasa (34ft Blackwatch) with Capt. Glanville at the helm and anglers Andy Graham & James Badcock winning Champion Boat Tagged & Release along with the top prize of $10,000 cash.  Mufasa won on countback with two Blue Marlin.

Special mention goes to Witchway (28ft Bertram) captained by Wayne Thomsen and his crew.  Even though they just missed out on the top prize they still were awarded the Champion Angler Junior Tag & Release and this went to Bree Thomsen with a nice Striped Marlin.

Most tagged & released Other Species went to Old Skool (31ft Bertram) on countback again.  Skippered by Dave McCallum and with angler Adam Small with a nice Mahi Mahi winning a cool $1,000.

Prizes that weren’t awarded the day were the Heaviest Marlin weighed (a $5,000 prize) along with the Heaviest Other Species ($1,000).

All in all it was another successful tournament in 2017 for the Gold Coast Game Fish Club and they will be running the same format again in October 2018.
